day_1
Bishkek to Naryn

Your journey commences with a transfer from Bishkek city to the historic city of Naryn. Along the way South you’ll see the diverse landscapes Kyrgyzstan has to offer from immense mountain ranges to deserts and canyons. Upon arrival to Naryn, you’ll have lunch in a local restaurant and have a chance to look around the city. You may also choose to relax for the rest of the day and prepare for tomorrow’s ride at your guesthouse.

day_2
Tash Rabat and Chatyr-Kul

Following our early meal, we’ll head towards Tash Rabat, a 15th-century stone caravanserai of the once flourishing Silk Road. After looking around, we’ll meet our companion for the trip, the horses, and after mounting them, we start our trek to Chatyr kul. There are yak herds along the trek, so you are likely to encounter them. Arriving at the lake, you’ll have a chance to look around. Chatyr-Kul Lake boasts vital wetland areas, serving as crucial habitats for countless migratory birds. Despite its ecological significance, the lake itself remains devoid of fish. While trees do not line its shores, the area thrives with abundant plant life, including numerous medicinal herbs. To further enhance your experience, nearby hot springs provide a tranquil retreat. Obtaining a special permit from the border guards (which we will arrange for you in advance) is necessary to access Chatyr-Kul due to the reserve's resident population of esteemed snow leopards (Panthera uncia), red marmots (Marmota caudata), the Siberian ibex (Capra sibirica), the argali sheep (Ovis ammon), and other endangered wildlife. Furthermore, ongoing scientific research and monitoring efforts focus on the reserve's Red Book animals, wetland avifauna, and medicinal plants, reflecting a steadfast commitment to conservation. We’ll be camping tonight near the lake and have dinner in the lap of nature.

Heading Home

Go for a morning walk if you wish and encounter the morning routines of the lake’s inhabitants. During the day, we’ll head back to Tash Rabat with our horses. You'll be transported back to Bishkek normally, but if you have any special needs, please, tell us.

Overnights?

Accommodation during the tour will vary between guesthouses, yurt camps, and tents. The detailed description for each day will specify the type of accommodation. If you prefer, you can bring your own tents and sleeping bags, but we are also able to provide them for you. We can also provide inflatable mats for an extra price. Please let us know in advance if you have any special accommodation needs.

Water?

While trekking, the importance of water cannot be overstated. We provide boiled water or tea/coffee during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but please note that the availability of boiled water is limited and may not be sufficient for refilling your bottles for the next day. Fortunately, we’ll find running streams in the mountains. They have a low risk of carrying pathogens and contain fewer particulate materials compared to stagnant water. Natural springs are the best option for refilling water as they act as natural filters. Locals and tourists drink water directly from the source without issues, but if you are uncertain, bring water purification tablets from your home country as they have limited availability in Kyrgyzstan.
